Required Procedure
(implanting of Microchip is mandatory for any country)

REQUIRED PROCEDURE for bringing in a pet (dogs and cats) to AUSTRALIA

In order to bring in a dog/cat, it must be brought in by a manifested air cargo and is not allowed to be personally carried in.

  1. Get an import permit by visiting the following URL
    http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/application
  2. Within 30 days prior to the departure date, a blood sample must be sent to the CENTRAIR
    quarantine laboratory. (For dogs only. This is not required for cats.)
  3. An external parasite treatment must be done on the same date as the blood sampling (for dog only).
  4. Other vaccinations against distemper, infectuous hepatitis, canine parvovirus, parainfluenza must be done between 14 days and 12 months prior to departure (the date counting should include the departure date) for dogs
  5. Other vaccination against feline enteritis, feline rhinotracheitis, and feline calicivirus must be done between 14 days and 12 months prior to departure (date counting should include the departure date) for cats
  6. A second external parasite treatment must be done within 4 days prior to the departure date for dogs.
    (For cats, only one external parasite treatmet is required, and two times is not necessary.)
  7. An internal parasite treatment must be done within 4 days prior to the departure date (for dogs and cats).

Although rabies vaccination is not always mandatory, the Australian quarantine facility requires it, and therefore, we recommend the rabies vaccination be done while in Japan.

REQUIRED PROCEDURE for sending a pet ( dogs and cats ) to NEW ZEALAND

In order to bring in a dog/cat, it must be brought in by a manifested air cargo and is not allowed to be personally carried in.

  1. Book a quarantine facility for 10 days (either in Auckland or Christchurch).
  2. After the quarantine facility location is confirmed, an import permit can be applied.
  3. Internal parasite treatment. (We suggest the use of Drontal Plus.)
    First treatment is 30 days, and at least 14 days before the second treatment.
    Second treatment must be 4 days prior to the departure date.
  4. External parasite treatment (We suggest the use of Frontline.)
    First treatment is 30 days, and at least 14 days before the second treatment.
    Second treatment must be 2 days prior to the departure date.
  5. Heartworm treatment and testing (for dogs only).
    Ivermectin at 6mcg/kg within four days prior.
    Blood testing by ELISA test within 30 days prior.
  6. Babesia Givsoni testing (for dogs only)
    Blood testing either by IFA or ELISA within 16 days prior.
  7. Brucella Canis testing
    Blood testing by RSAT test within 16 days prior.
  8. Leptospirosis (for dogs only)
    Blood testing by MAT test within 30 days prior.
  9. Health check examination
    Wthin two days prior.

* Blood test of 5) 6) 7) 8) can be performed by CENTRAIR quarantine laboratory.

Although rabies vaccination is not mandatory, because the New Zealand quarantine facility requires it, we recommend that rabies vaccination be done while in Japan.

REQUIRED PROCEDURE for sending a pet ( dogs and cats ) to SINGAPORE

  1. First rabies vaccination
  2. Second rabies vaccination 30 days after the first rabies vaccination (if this pet is going back to Japan).
  3. Blood test 30 days after the first rabies vaccination.
  4. Blood (serum) must be sent to the Research Institute for Animal Science in Biochemistry & Toxicology, which is located in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, along with a blood test fee of JPY12,000.
    When you send the serum, you are requested to download and complete an English form.

REQUIRED PROCEDURE for sending a pet ( dogs and cats ) to HONG KONG

In order to bring in a dog/cat, it must be brought in by a manifested air cargo and is not allowed to be personally carried in.

  1. Special permit is required to bring a dog/cat into Hong Kong
    Prior application is required. Form No.AF240 must be submitted.
  2. After the implantation of microchip:
    Vaccination for the following diseases are required.
    For Dogs: Canine distemper, infectuous canine hapatitis, and canine parvoivrus
    For Cats: Feline pnleucopeenia, and cat flu.
  3. Animal Health Certificate Form No. VC-DC1 must accompany the air cargo of the pet.

REQUIRED PROCEDURE for sending a pet ( dogs and cats ) to UK

In order to bring in a dog/cat, it must be brought in by a manifested air cargo and is not allowed to be personally carried in.

  1. An import permit is not required. In January 2012, the regulations for bringing in a dog/cat from Japan was modified to become more relaxed. A quarantine period is no longer required if the following conditions are met.
    Also, starting January 2012, no blood testing is required.
  2. Rabies vaccination must be done more than 21 days prior to the date of arrival in UK.
  3. Prepare a Pet Passport document.
  4. Tapeworm treatment required within 24 hours - 120 hours before the arrival time in UK (for dogs only).
  5. In order to clear the import customs tax-free, the C5 form must be prepared.
